About Me
I'm Marco Dell'Olio, software engineer, founder, and builder. I build to empower people to achieve more, move faster, take bigger leaps, and get more out of their lives.
I love the mess and what it hides. Messy problems often contain a great deal of value; untangling and harnessing that value allows everyone to benefit from it.
I believe in technology as a democratizing power, and we should strive to ensure we all have equal opportunities to benefit from it.
What I Value
- Team consistency over individual correctness.
- Intentionality, because it surfaces all the other qualities I look for in people.
- Getting it done is more important than doing it right, with exceptions, of course.
- In a startup, to win against an incumbent, we need to provide massive value in a short amount of time, which means making massive leaps.
- If a conversation isn't hard or uncomfortable, it's probably not worth having.
- Not being yourself is tiresome for both parties- save that energy for building.
What's Beyond
If I'm not building, I'm prioritizing time with my family, I'm married with two young kids. A big part of our life together is cooking meals, which, as a good Italian, is a central part of our culture. I especially love cleaning and cooking seafood.
Sports have always been an important part of my life. Since childhood, I've wanted to try and practice everything: soccer, handball, fencing, judo, kitesurfing, etc.. But what really stuck was skiing and rock climbing. Now, with limited time at my disposal, Olympic lifting and running have taken their place.
A week in the Dolomites is still my favorite vacation, and the next big thing on my list is sailing.
I wish I had a more artistic or performative side, playing music, singing, or dancing, but none of those have ever clicked for me. Writing is more of a tool to organize my thoughts than a passion.
I also have a weird thing for backpacks. My go-to pack is a North Face Borealis.
